Secretary/Treasurer's Report (Spring 2018)
Following is a brief summary of the November, January, February, and March TSHS executive committee meetings (all were conference calls). No conference call was held in December.
Topics discussed during the November 20 meeting included the following: an update on potential webinars that TSHS could sponsor; potential topics for TSHS topic contributed sessions for JSM 2018; an update on a potential TSHS blog, including the form of this and the logistics that are needed to establish this and keep it up to date; the annual section report; the forthcoming review of the TSHS charter, which will be voted on by the section members in the 2018 ASA elections; a discussion of the 2018 TSHS budget; and an update on the TSHS website.
Topics discussed during the January 8 meeting included the following: the official list of TSHS officers for 2018; an update on the TSHS annual report (for 2017) and on the proposed charter revisions; an update on a forthcoming TSHS-sponsored webinar; an update on nearly final topics and presenters for TSHS topic contributed sessions for JSM 2018; and an announcement of the winners of the 2017 Best Contributed Presentation Awards as well as the logistics of getting the certificates and cash awards to these award winners.
Topics discussed during the February 12 meeting included the following: an update of the logistics of the forthcoming TSHS-sponsored webinar (“Using R Commander in Basic Statistics Courses”, to be presented by John Fox); a detailed update of budget and treasury issues, which included the clarification of charges from JSM 2017 to our treasury, sponsorships that Stata and R Studio agreed to provide to TSHS, and the notifications sent to our Best Contributed Presentation Award winners as well as the logistics involved with the award presentations; and a detailed update of the TSHS JSM 2018 sessions (invited, topic contributed, and regular contributed) and roundtable discussions.
Topics discussed during the March 19 meeting included the following: the TSHS Google/Gmail account and specifically the purposes of this account; a recap of the recently completed TSHS-sponsored webinar, which included a review of the webinar, lessons learned from sponsoring the webinar, including the logistics, and costs associated with the webinar; an update on the section treasury, including income and expenses; an update on the TSHS JSM 2018 sessions, all of which are now finalized; and updates on the spring issue of the newsletter as well as the section blog.
