Last Week for Nominations


If you were teaching a course this past semester, congratulations on making it through finals! If not, we hope you have been simply enjoying some spring weather. This quick post is a reminder that the nomination deadline for two awards being offered in 2018 by TSHS is only one week away -- Monday May 15

Did your mentee write a good statistics education paper recently? The annual Young Investigator Award recognizes a young TSHS member who shows promise as a statistics educator or in conducting statistics education research in the health sciences. Young investigator is defined as (i) a current graduate student, OR (ii) a recent graduate who has received his/her terminal degree no more than 7 years ago and who is in position with rank below Associate Professor and does not hold tenure (or equivalent classification). It's easy to nominate them, just send:

  • Nomination letter certifying that the nominee meets eligibility criteria (1 page)

  • Copy of the nominee's curriculum vitae, with education research highlighted

  • PDF of a published paper on the topic of statistics education, with the nominee as first author

Is there a teacher you know who is really doing great things? The annual Outstanding Teaching Award recognizes a TSHS member who is an outstanding statistics educator and mentor in the health sciences. It's easy to nominate them, just send:

  • Nomination letter summarizing the nominee's teaching/training and mentoring record in the health sciences (1 page)

  • Copy of the nominee's curriculum vitae

  • Statement of the nominee's philosophy of teaching (1 page)

  • One letter of reference summarizing his/her teaching/training and mentoring accomplishments (1 page)
