Fall News 2018: Summary of the JSM Business Meeting and Mixer
The TSHS business meeting and mixer were held during JSM 2018 in Vancouver on July 30, 2018. At least 60 TSHS members and guests attended. Following is a summary of this event.
Jeff Syzchowski, TSHS Chair, welcomed attendees and encouraged everyone in attendance to enter the drawing for door prizes (except for TSHS officers, who were ineligible).
Jeff introduced the current section officers.
Winners of section awards during late 2017 and 2018 were introduced. These winners included the following individuals:
Leah Welty, Northwestern University, 2017 Best Contributed Presentation Award (left panel, pink shirt)
Kari Lock Morgan, Penn State University, 2017 Best Contributed Presentation Award (left panel, blue shirt)
Amy Nowacki, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, 2018 Outstanding Teaching Award (right panel, blue and yellow print shirt)
Jacqui Milton Hicks, Boston University, 2018 Outstanding Teaching Award (right panel, yellow shirt)
Carol Bigelow (pictured, right) and Ann Brearley (not pictured) described the TSHS Portal Effort.
It was announced that TSHS will be offering the following awards during 2019:
Outstanding Teaching Award
Young Investigator Award
Distinguished Achievement Award
Drawings were then held for numerous door prizes, which consisted of statistical software and textbooks. The door prizes were much appreciated by the mixer attendees who won them!
