Topic Contributed Sessions
Submit proposals: Nov 12 - Dec 12, 2018 11:59 PM
I encourage everyone to consider proposing a Topic-Contributed Session for JSM 2019 in Denver "Statistics: Making an Impact". Topic-Contributed sessions are a great way for statisticians to come together regarding an exciting area of interest in our field. Currently, proposals for topic-contributed papers and panel sessions are being accepted and are due by December 12 11:59:59 PM EST. Topic-contributed paper sessions consist of five speakers, made up of at least three presenters and, at most, two discussants; each speaker has 20 minutes to present. Topic-contributed panel sessions consist of three to six members providing commentary or a point of view on the panel topic. If you have an idea but aren't sure how to get started, please feel free to contact me at jnmilton@bu.edu. I'm more than happy to discuss ideas and put you in contact with potential discussants and panelists. Putting together a topic contributed session is a great way to get involved in ASA and meet fellow collaborators, and looks great on your CV! Once you have a list of participants for you topic-contributed session, you will need the following information regarding your session and the participants:
short description of session, including focus, content, timeliness, and appeal
list of topic-contributed speakers/panelists, including affiliation and email address for each participant
tentative title for each presentation
the session format (e.g., chair, four speakers, and discussant)
affiliation and email address for organizer, chair, and any discussants
Individual abstracts are not required at this time.
Step-by-step instructions can be found here. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to seeing you all in Denver!
Call for JSM 2019 Roundtable Ideas!
Email now, Submission opens: Dec 3, 2018
Greetings to my fellow teachers of statistics in the health sciences!
Do you have a discussion topic that you would like to chat about with a group of your peers? A topic that could really get people talking? Something that could be discussed in a small, low-stress, group environment? Suggest it as a roundtable idea! Roundtables provide the perfect opportunity to converse with your colleagues and hear diverse thoughts, opinions, and experiences.
I'm seeking roundtable ideas for the Teaching Statistics in the Health Sciences Section for JSM 2019. If you have an idea, please contact me at maria.ciarleglio@yale.edu to discuss. Abstract submissions begin December 3rd.
Roundtable discussions do not count as your “main” presentation (see note below on Participant limits), so consider doing both.
Contributed Talks and Posters
Submit: Dec 3, 2018 - Feb 4, 2019 11:59 PM
Heads up, online submission of abstracts (all except invited papers and panels) begins December 3, 2018 12:01 AM - February 4, 2019 11:59 PM. Maybe you don’t have a theme to compose a topic-contributed session but you do have an idea to share. Write it up for a contributed session.
Contributed and Topic Contributed Presentations with TSHS have a chance to win our best presentation award.
Posters are a nice way to have one-on-one discussion with peers about your work.
Participant Limits
JSM wants to make sure everyone gets a chance to share their ideas. Participants at JSM can deliver only ONE main presentation. This could be a talk or panel member in an invited, topic-contributed, or contributed session. Topic-contributed and contributed posters also count as the “main” presentation. However, if you take full advantage of the program participant guide, it’s possible to be in 9 activities.
Find out more at the “Be on the Program” site or by downloading the PDF of the checklist.
