Secretary-Treasurer's Report


Following is a brief summary of the December 17, January 24, February 28, March 28, and April 25 TSHS executive committee meetings (all were conference calls). No meeting was held in November.

[Editor's note: this report is for Spring 2019. It was submitted in a timely manner. The delay in posting was an oversight on my part.]

Topics discussed during the December 17 meeting included the following:

  • Update on the section treasury, including income and expenses

  • Update on section awards for 2019

  • Update on the section newsletter and the section blog

  • Review of the preliminary list of section officers (elected and appointed) for 2019

Topics discussed during the January 24 meeting included the following:

  • Review of the final list of section officers (elected and appointed) for 2019

  • Announcement of the winner of the JSM TSHS 2018 Best Contributed Presentation Award (note: the winner was Philip Sedgwick from St. George’s, University of London)

  • The 2018 TSHS Annual Report

  • Proposed updates to the section handbook

  • Update on the section treasury – close-out from 2018 and a look ahead at 2019

  • Nominees for TSHS Chair-Elect in 2020 (who are running in the 2019 TSHS election)

  • Update on the JSM 2019 TSHS Program

  • Section communications

  • TSHS awards that will be offered in 2019

Topics discussed during the February 28 meeting included the following:

  • JSM 2019 Awards booklet – making sure that the winners of the TSHS awards for 2018 are listed in this

  • Update on the section treasury, including updates on potential sponsorships for the section mixer

  • Council of Sections Report

  • Planning for the TSHS 2019 JSM program, including sessions, roundtables, the section executive committee meeting, and the section business meeting and mixer

  • Updates on publicity and communications

  • Potential TSHS-sponsored webinars for 2019

  • Calendar of TSHS business and activities

Topics discussed during the March 28 meeting included the following:

  • Planning for the TSHS 2019 JSM program, including updates on sessions, roundtables, the section’s executive committee meeting, and the section’s business meeting and mixer

  • Update on the section treasury, including updates on potential sponsorships for the section mixer

  • Updates on publicity and communications

  • Updates on potential TSHS-sponsored webinars for 2019, including a discussion of the logistics of hosting these

  • Update on TSHS award nominations for 2019

  • Update on the search for candidates to fill the TSHS Program Chair-Elect position for 2020

Topics discussed during the April 25 meeting included the following:

  • Updates on planning for the TSHS 2019 JSM program, including updates on sessions and roundtables, and an update on TSHS participating in staffing the JSM education table

  • Announcement of the TSHS Program Chair-Elect-Elect for 2019 (Program Chair-Elect in 2020 and Program Chair in 2021) – Jaya M. Satagopan of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

  • Update on the section treasury, including updates on potential sponsorships for the section mixer

  • Update on communications

  • Updates on potential TSHS-sponsored webinars for 2019

  • Update on TSHS award nominations for 2019

  • Update on the ASA Speaker’s Bureau and on the ASA Committee on Membership and Recruitment, regarding the need to add potential speakers to the ASA speaker list
